1948 Original Course

Phil Walters (1948-1957)
Inducted: 2008

Walters first came to Watkins Glen when the races were still run through the streets of the small upstate New York Village and claimed the1950 Seneca Cup for his first victory at Watkins Glen.  He returned to victory lane two more times over the next four years but each time it was of the marquee race, the 1951 and 1954 Watkins Glen Grand Prix.  Walters was not satisfied with simply three victories during that decade, he also set the track record for the original street course and still hold it to this day.

1963 Graham Hill

Inducted: 2008

Graham Hill dominated F1 racing at Watkins Glen International from the time it arrived in 1961 through the event in 1967.  Hill competed in seven United States Grand Prix at The Glen, and went on to post one 5th place finish, two 2nd place finishes, and three straight wins from 1963-1965.  Unfortunately, Hill lost his life in a small plane crash in November 1975.

Jackie Stewart  (1968-1977)
Inducted: 2008 


In 1968, Stewart won at Watkins Glen International while becoming the first driver to lead every lap of the US Grand Prix.  Stewart struggled in the next two U.S. Grand Prix with mechanical issues, but came back to finish 5th in 1971.  Stewart returned to Victory Lane in 1972 in his Tyrrell Ford. In 1973 he qualified 5th for the US Grand Prix, but withdrew from the event and retired from racing when his teammate, Francois Cevert, was killed in a practice crash.

Al Holbert (1978-1987)
Inducted: 2008

Holbert put on one of the most exceptional runs during a ten year period in WGI history. During the 1978-1987 time period, he claimed five wins including three consecutive Camel Continental GT victories. His first victory of the decade came in the Budweiser Can-Am on July 12, 1981 in a Holbert CRC-2. He returned to The Glen for the reopening event; the Camel Continental, July 5-7, 1984.
