Watkins Glen Supports Community Organizations

CollageKidsJpg
Watkins Glen International supports many local organizations, charities and regional fundraising through a variety of resources each year. One of the more popular charitable giving campaigns, where the track has witnessed success, is through donations to non-profit organizations in exchange for help during the larger event weekends held at The Soul of American Road Racing throughout the season. Each year non-profit organizations can sign up to help out at the track in exchange for a donation to their organization. Responsibilities can include ticket stubbing or bag checking as fans come on-site. They also include driving courtesy carts to helping disabled fans throughout the weekends and gate responsibilities, among others. Volunteer opportunities during the upcoming NASCAR NEXTEL CUP Series weekend August 11-13 are still available. Not only does Watkins Glen International support regional non-profit organizations through donations but many staff members at the track donate their time to a variety of community organizations and committees including regional chambers and economic development organizations, local clubs like the Kiwanis, volunteer firefighters, community arts, youth development programs and charitable fundraising committees. What else? For several years the track has worked hard to support the local Food Bank of the Southern Tier by donating food from larger event weekends such as the Watkins Glen Indy Grand Prix and the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series weekend in August. Over 10,000 lbs of food has been donated during the four year relationship. Last year the track hosted the local Sullivan Trail Chapter of the American Red Cross for two events in support of Hurricane Katrina relief efforts. This year the track is already working with the local American Red Cross chapter and the NASCAR Foundation in support of their national blood drive initiatives and will host the 1st annual "Road to the Rescue" to be held this fall on September 11th.
