Senator Jim Alesi and Senator Joe Robach announced that as a special treat for area NASCAR fans they will be hosting an exhibit at the upcoming Monroe County Fair with Watkins Glen International, featuring an authentic NASCAR stock car and two racing simulators.
Watkins Glen International will also unveil their NEW 2006 show car to kick-off the "Racing, Only Twisted Tour" a traveling exhibit featuring two racing simulators, an authentic stock car, race information and ticket giveaways and promotions to help showcase NASCAR racing in New York State at Watkins Glen International. The show car is the #39 NASCAR Busch Series Penske Truck Leasing car driven by Kurt Busch which will run at Watkins Glen International on August 12th.
"We truly appreciate the support we have received from our State Senators and are thrilled to work with them as we prepare for our upcoming NASCAR weekend," stated Craig Rust, President of Watkins Glen International. "We are looking forward to celebrating 20 years of NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series racing at the track this August."
Senator Robach said, "Bringing this display to the Monroe County Fair is so exciting for Rochester area NASCAR fans. This will be a great family event that kids and parents can enjoy together while also supporting an extremely worthy cause."
"As big as NASCAR gets, the hearts of its fans are even bigger," said Senator Alesi, (R,C - Perinton). "I am proud to join with racing fans everywhere in supporting the NASCAR Foundation's efforts to help those in need and in celebrating 20 years of NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series racing at New York's very own Watkins Glen International."
The fair exhibit will continue the Senators' efforts to raise awareness about the NASCAR Foundation, and support the 20th Anniversary of NASCAR NEXTEL Cup racing at Watkins Glen International. The State Senate passed a resolution earlier this year recognizing NASCAR Day 2006 in New York State in support of the NASCAR Foundation; a charitable organization in support of worthy causes such as: enriching the lives of chronically ill children; expanding literacy; encouraging bone marrow donation; and fighting cancer. The cornerstone of the foundation is the distribution of collectible NASCAR Day lapel pins, which fans and other supporters can obtain in exchange for a $5 donation to the NASCAR Foundation. The pins will be available at the exhibit.
NASCAR racing returns to Watkins Glen International in one month, featuring the cars and stars of the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series. The Zippo 200 NASCAR Busch Series race is also back for a second year on Saturday, August 12 with the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series taking center stage on Sunday, August 13th. Information on tickets can be found on TheGlen.com or by calling 866-461-RACE.
The exhibit, located near the main entrance, will be open on Thursday, July 13 from 4 p.m. - 11 p.m. and on Friday, July 14, 2006 from 12 noon - 11 p.m.
