Castroneves cracks 135 mph!

Team Penske's Helio Castroneves again set the fast time of the session and became the first driver to crack the 135 mph barrier on the Watkins Glen International Grand Prix course. Castroneves time of 1: 29.5359 (135.499 mph) edged out Andretti Green Racing's Dario Franchitti's 1:29.7664 (135.151 mph). Rounding out the top 5 were defending race winner Scott Dixon, Tony Kanaan and Sam Hornish Jr. Castroneves is now the clear favorite to take the pole position for the Camping World Watkins Glen Grand Prix. Qualifying will get under way at 1:30 p.m. today. A pair of incidents interrupted the session this morning. Kosuke Matsuura spun his Indy racer in turn 7 (the "Toe" of "The Boot"), damaging the rear wing and right rear suspension. Vitor Meira spun out entering turn 8 (the "Heel"), sliding into the gravel trap. After getting a tow out of the gravel, Meira was able to drive back to the pits under his own power. Buddy Rice, who set the fast time in the first practice session, had to have his machine towed back to pit road after his machine lost power exiting the "Inner Loop."
