Helio Castroneves, driver of the #3 Team Penske machine, led afternoon practice at Watkins Glen International. Great times were set again as the top 3 drivers eclipsed the track qualifying record set two years ago by Castroneves. Helio's time of 1:30.1192 (134.622 mph) was 0.0395 seconds quicker than defending race winner Scott Dixon's 1:30.1587 (134.563 mph). Third quickest was Team 7-Eleven Andretti Green Racing's Tony Kanaan at 1:30.4386 (134.146 mph). Rounding out the top 5 were Dario Franchitti and Kosuke Matsuura
There were two minor incidents during the practice session. Sam Hornish Jr. spun his Team Penske racer exiting the "Inner Loop" stopping inches from the outside wall, bringing out a local yellow. Later, Scott Dixon shut down practice for a few minutes as his Target Chip Ganassi Racing machine lost power and stopped on the track in the "Inner Loop."
Final practice for the IndyCar Series Camping World Watkins Glen Grand Prix will take place Saturday at 9:45 a.m., with qualifying at 1:30 p.m.
