Corning Duels to Feature Newly Named Series

Glen fans young and old will have a chance to see the merger of open-wheeled racing's past and present when the Corning Duels hit the track during the Camping World Grand Prix at The Glen weekend, July 4-6. Earlier today, the Indy Racing League and Bridgestone Firestone North American Tire, LLC (BFNT), announced that Firestone will become the title sponsor of the IRL's official developmental series and that it has been renamed the Firestone Indy Lights. The former Indy Pro Series will take on the new title sponsor's brand name immediately and carry out the already established schedule featuring a double-header at The Soul of American Road Racing on Saturday, July 5th. This agreement combines the current cars of the Indy Pro Series with the historic name of Indy Lights. The history of the Indy Lights reaches back to 1991 when the Firestone and Dayton brands bannered the Indy Lights Championships from 1991-2001. Several current IndyCar® Series stars, such as three-time Camping World Grand Prix at The Glen champion Scott Dixon, attribute current success to their start in the original development series. Other past Indy Lights champions and current IndyCar Series drivers include Tony Kanaan, Oriol Servia and Townsend Bell. The Indy Pro Series was founded by the IRL in 2002 and has featured several current IndyCar Series drivers such as Marco Andretti, A.J. Foyt IV, Hideki Mutoh and Jay Howard. You can see all the current stars and cars of the premier open-wheel racing IndyCar Series during the Camping World Grand Prix at The Glen, July 4-6, as part of a 4th of July weekend spectacular. In addition to seeing the biggest stars in American open-wheel racing, fans that come to The Glen will be treated to exciting racing action that will feature the Corning Duels Firestone Indy Lights, formerly Indy Pro Series, races, Grand Am KONI Challenge Series, and the Penn Grade 1 Historic Grand Prix. Fans looking for more to do than just watching racing will not be disappointed with free concerts on the Red Cat Summer Stage, the free Friday Night Block Party, the July NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Race at Daytona on the FrontStretch Jumbotron, driver autograph sessions, a wine and cheese party, and two large fireworks shows; including one of the biggest in Western New York on Friday, July 4.
