Tickets for '09 are On Sale Now
Opening Day at Watkins Glen International in 2009 is already less than 165 days away and tickets for all of the action at Watkins Glen International will go on sale, this Saturday, November 15. Fans that buy tickets before Opening Day on April 26, 2009, can save up-to $15 on tickets and the NEW 50/50 Payment Plan gives fans the opportunity to pay half now and the rest in the April. Gift certificates are also available this holiday season and can be used towards any event at The Glen in 2009.
"We understand that times are tough and have been working hard to make it easier for our fans to enjoy our events," stated Craig Rust, president of Watkins Glen International. "We appreciate the support we get from our fans and hope that initiatives like our advance prices, kids' free programs and the new 50/50 payment plan will make tickets more affordable for them and their families."
The 50/50 payment plan was implemented in 2007 and applied to previous year renewal customers only. This year, The Glen has extended this offer to all race fans that purchase tickets using a credit card between November 15th and April 1st. Fans will be charged the first half on the date of purchase and then the second half on April 26th. This will allow fans to both save money and provides extra flexibility when paying for their tickets. For over 20 years WGI has offered fans an advance price as an incentive to secure tickets in advance. Kids 12 and under also receive free general admission tickets when accompanied by an adult, during the Sahlen's Six Hours of The Glen, IndyCar Series weekend and the U.S. Vintage Grand Prix weekends. The "Kids Free" program was introduced in 2008 and will continue into 2009.
The 2009 season will be another action packed year at the Soul of American Road Racing with seven spectator racing events between June and September, coupled with New York State's largest wine festival mid-July. The season kicks-off with the 28th Running of the Sahlen's Six Hours of The Glen event weekend, June 5-7, featuring the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car, NASCAR Camping World East, and KONI Challenge Series.
The action really revs up once July rolls around with the return of the cars and stars of the IndyCar® Series for the Fifth Annual Camping World Grand Prix at The Glen, July 3-5. The up-and-coming drivers of the Firestone Indy Lights will heat-up the track in the Corning 100 on Saturday, July 4th and Ryan Hunter-Reay will look to defend his victory in the Camping World Grand Prix at The Glen on Sunday, July 5th. The track will once again celebrate the nation's independence all weekend and kick it off with the Indy-pendence Day Celebration in Clute Park on Friday, July 3rd. The party moves up to the track for the rest of the weekend with fireworks, track-side camping, concerts, wine tasting, carnival food, kids' games and much more. The Finger Lakes Wine Festival presented by Yancey's Fancy New York's Artisan Cheese, July 17-19, will provide fans with a change of pace in the middle of the season. The festival continues to be the East Coast's largest showcase of New York state wines, featuring over 80 wineries from around the region, pouring over 600 different wines. This combined with some of the area's best arts & crafts, food, music, culinary classes, and cooking demonstrations makes it the perfect event to enjoy a visit to The Glen at a little slower pace. The highlight of the 2009 season, the Centurion Boats at The Glen NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event, is back on its traditional August race weekend. The NASCAR Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series will turn left and right at The Glen, August 6-9. Fans can see the stars of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series challenge the famed 2.45-mile track in the Centurion Boats at The Glen on Sunday, August 9 and the NASCAR Nationwide Series Zippo 200 on Saturday, August 8th. The popular Daytona Prototypes of the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car
Series will get the weekend of racing going during the Crown Royal 200 on Friday, August 7th.
