WGI Fans Will Get Double Dose of Marty Reid in 2009
By: WGI Staff on 1/8/2009
Race fans have come to expect to hear the voice of long-time motorsports announcer Marty Reid when the IndyCar Series returns to The Glen each year but things will be a little different in 2009. In addition to the Camping World Grand Prix, July 3-5, he will also fill the role of play-by-play announcer for the Zippo 200 NASCAR Nationwide Series race on Saturday, August 8. Joining Reid for both events will be pit reporter Vince Welch. The expansion of roles was announced by ESPN on Tuesday, January 6, 2009.
Reid has been the play-by-play announcer for the Camping World Grand Prix at The Glen IndyCar Series race for the last three years. He will reprise this role for the 5th Annual Camping World Grand Prix at The Glen on Sunday, July 5th as well as the other four races that will be televised live on ABC. Reid's expanded role makes him the lead announcer for all of the NASCAR Nationwide Series races during the second half of that season which includes the Zippo 200. He is very familiar with Watkins Glen International as he was the lead announcer for Scott Dixon's second and third consecutive victories in 2006 and 2007 and American Ryan Hunter-Reay's first career IndyCar Series victory during the 4th of July holiday weekend in 2008.
Welch will be one of ESPN's four primary NASCAR pit reporters during the 2009 season and will fill the same role for the five IndyCar Series races to be held on ABC including the Camping World Grand Prix at The Glen. Welch has been one of the full-time pit reporters for ESPN's IndyCar Series coverage and for select NASCAR races over the last two years.
