Earth Day Efforts Will Last Entire Season
WGI Switches to Toyota Hybrids and Partners with Swarthout Recycling
By: WGI Staff on 4/21/2009
Fans should expect to see the 2009 Official Toyota Camry Pace Car driving around town this season.
The on-site recycling program in partnership with Swarthout Recycling in Beaver Dams, NY is designed to not only help fans positively impact the environment but also reward them with WGI/Sponsor gear and give fans the chance to win a VIP experience during the 2010 IndyCar or NASCAR event weekends. The recycling program is comprised of two parts – curbside recycling and recycling redemption booths.
Curbside recycling is a service that will be available to all fans staying in the WGI campgrounds. All campers will be given a specific recycling bag when they arrive at The Soul of American Road Racing in which to place all recyclables during their stay. Guests will not be asked to carry these bags out of the track with them rather they can place the filled bags curbside by their campsite each night to have them picked up. This is a free service and additional recycling bags will be available at any redemption location in the campgrounds.
Fans can also choose to turn-in sorted recycling bags to the redemption centers themselves and receive great WGI gear. For every six recycling bags they submit, fans will be entered into the VIP experience contest drawing. The program will run during four events this upcoming season - the Camping World Grand Prix at The Glen IndyCar Series, Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips at The Glen NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series, and Finger Lakes Wine Festival presented by Yancey’s Fancy New York’s Artisan Cheese event weekends.
Most 2009 fleet vehicles at Watkins Glen International including the Official Camry Pace Car come from Toyota with Hybrid Synergy Drive technology. More information on this and all of WGI’s “racing to green” initiatives including the Go Green at The Glen expo can be found on the website at www.TheGlen.com under Plan Your Visit.
Tickets for the entire 2009 season at Watkins Glen International are on sale now! This weekend will mark the last day to save on tickets. This Sunday is Opening Day at the race track and fans can come to the track to purchase tickets at the advance price and drive their cars around the historic road-course for only $20.00 per vehicle.
