WGI Recognized for Excellence in Social Media
The Glen Utilizes Twitter, Facebook, and Blogs to Reach Fans for Promos, News and More

Fans can use several forms of social media including Twitter to interact with each other and WGI.
“It's a testament to what the WGI marketing staff is doing on Twitter that fans immediately identify with, and embrace their brand with their great giveaways and fan engagement," said Brendan Wilhide, founder of Sportsin140.com.
Over the past few weeks alone, WGI has used Twitter to organize several scavenger hunts for free tickets as well as a surprise meet and greet with IndyCar Series driver, Graham Rahal. Additionally, the historic road course is planning the first-ever motor sports “tweet-up” event later this summer; allowing its followers the chance to not only meet one another, but to interact with Series personnel and drivers who use social media outlets in their daily lives.
“We’ve tried to stay ahead of the curve, especially in motor sports, when it comes to social networking,” said Paul Hemingway, Senior Director of Sales and Marketing at WGI. “We know our fans can be our most effective endorsers through their interactions with one another and Twitter provides us a vehicle that produces instantaneous word of mouth.”
Tickets for the entire 2009 season at Watkins Glen International are on sale now! Celebrate the Fourth of July with the 5th Annual Camping World Grand Prix at The Glen weekend, July 3-5. On-track action will be headlined by the IndyCar Series, Firestone Indy Lights, F2000 Championship Series and the SCCA SPEED World Challenge.
