NTL to Invade The Glen in Search of the “Cornhole King of the Campgrounds”

The National Tailgating League (The NTL), a newly formed organization created to sanction and execute organized tailgating games including Cornhole, Ladder Golf and Washer Toss competitions, announced today details for its first stop in New York with officially sanctioned cornhole tournaments at Watkins Glen International in August.

The doubles cornhole tournaments will take place Aug. 8 - 9 in conjunction with the Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips at The Glen and will be open to all ticketed patrons.

The NTL held its inaugural event in conjunction with the at Lowes Motor Speedway in May, amassing a strong following of 400 players and thousands more spectators over the course of just two days.

“New Yorkers are some of the greatest sports fans in the world,” said Todd Hirschfeld, NTL Founder and President. “They’re also some of the great tailgaters in the country so we’re excited about including The Glen in our 2009 summer tour as we search for the ‘Cornhole King of the Campgrounds.’”

In addition to the $2,500 cash prize for Sunday’s main event tournament, participants in Saturday’s amateur cornhole tournaments will compete for race-related experiences such as suite passes, pace car rides and other once-in-a-lifetime opportunities including driver meet-n-greets and private pit tours.

“We’re proud to be among the first motor sports venues in the country to host the National Tailgating League.  Cornhole is a huge part of the tailgating culture, and our Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips at The Glen Sprint Cup Weekend is one of the largest tailgating venues in the Northeast,” said Paul Hemingway, Senior Director, Marketing and Sales. “Our fans are some of the most passionate outdoor enthusiasts in the country and I expect WGI to be a regular stop on the NTL tour for years to come.”

Interested race fans and gamers that want to participate in one of the NTL doubles cornhole tournaments during the Watkins Glen weekend can reserve a spot by signing up today at or can visit the tournament site starting as early as Friday, Aug. 7. Each of the three weekend tournaments will hold up to 64 teams of two and sign-ups are on a first come, first serve basis.

Cornhole is a tailgating game similar to horseshoes in which contestants take turns pitching corn bags at wooden boxes in an attempt to land on the cornhole platform, or even better, make it into the hole that is cut into each box. Known in different parts of the country as bags, corn toss, bean bag, bean toss, soft horseshoes or Indiana Horseshoes, Cornhole has been increasingly popular over the last decade and today is played by millions of Americans in virtually every corner of the country.
