Giving the command to start engines will be Ryan Miller, who plays goaltender for the Buffalo Sabres in the National Hockey League. The all-star hockey player will act as the Grand Marshal for the Crown Royal 200 on Friday night, August 7. After spending six seasons moving through the ranks, Miller was named the starting goalie for the Buffalo Sabres by the end of the 2005-2006 season. To kickoff the next season, Miller led the Sabres on a ten-game winning streak and was later voted the starting goaltender for the Eastern Conference in the 2007 NHL All-Star Game. Throughout his six-season career, the all-star goalie has accumulated 146 wins in only 264 games. Fans will get a chance to meet Miller during a special autograph session at 5:00 PM on Friday, August 7. Miller will be at The Pyramid of Watkins Glen International to sign autographs and promote his charitable endeavor, The Steadfast Foundation. During his appearance, Miller will sell limited edition Steadfast Foundation/WGI hats to commemorate his experience at the Crown Royal 200. The hats will be sold exclusively at his autograph session, and 100% of all proceeds will benefit The Steadfast Foundation.
On Saturday afternoon, August 8, Doug Marrone will take over Grand Marshal duties as he directs the field to fire their engines. Marrone was hired as the head football coach for Syracuse University on December 11, 2008 and is currently preparing for his first season at the helm of The Orange. The former football captain and three-year letterman at Syracuse University returned to coach at his alma matter after helping coach in the NFL and at various colleges and universities.
Megan Linville will also take parting the pre-race ceremony for the Zippo 200. The up-and-coming country star will sing both the Canadian and American National anthems just moments before the race begins. Linville began performing at the age of 7, and has since built up quite an impressive resume. With countless concerts and performances at Indy 500 Qualifying and Atlanta Braves games, Linville is sure to stun the crowd with a great performance.
On Sunday afternoon, August 9, TelluRide will perform the Canadian and American National Anthems in preparation of the Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips at The Glen. TelluRide made their debut in 2006 as a four-man band with a new kind of country music. They were named “The Group to Watch” in 2008 by the Country Music Association, and have since performed at Major League Baseball games and NASCAR events.
