Cars of every type including Cooper Minis will be seen hitting the track this weekend at WGI.

Opening Day at Watkins Glen International has traditionally been the day that fans can drive the historic road course to celebrate the opening of a new season but this year it is so much more.  Opening Day has now become Opening Weekend, April 24-25, and will feature much more than just laps around the famed twists and turns.  The two-day event will not only include the last opportunity to save money on tickets for the 2010 season and drive The Glen but also feature live music, displays, a visit by students involved in the Hillside Work-Scholarship Connection, and pins in support of NASCAR Day.  The event will be held rain or shine.

The entire weekend will be jam-packed with fun for the whole family with the highlight being 3 laps around the 3.4-mile Grand Prix course at The Glen.  Fans looking to learn more about the new Legends of Motorsports event, June 11-13, can visit a full display that includes the 1970 Lola T-200 Formula Ford owned by Corning, NY resident Marc Giroux.  The car will be on display for the entire weekend and staff from Legends of Motorsports will be on-site to answer any questions regarding their series or upcoming event weekend.  Professional photographs will be taken of each car as they take their drive around the track by Track Time Photos and will be available for purchase following each tour.  Fans will also be welcome to make a visit to Gatorade Victory Lane to take pictures of them standing in the same spots as Scott Pruett, Justin Wilson, and Tony Stewart did following their victories during the 2009 season.  The latest WGI apparel will also be on-sale during the entire event weekend allowing fans to get geared up for the 2010 season.  A wide variety of concessions will be available at Stand 4 the entire weekend allowing fans to fill their stomachs after their spin around WGI.  The menu will include Bog Hog BBQ sandwiches, Sahlen’s hot dogs, Yancey’s Fancy – Budweiser Cheese Soup, homemade macaroni salad, chips, Pepsi products, and water.  NASCAR Day pins will also be available for purchase at The Pyramid during the event for only $5 with the proceeds of those sales going towards the NASCAR Foundation.  Fans will also receive one NASCAR Day pin with the purchase of every 3-lap tour during the weekend.  The Swarthout Recycling shred trunk will once again be on-hand for fans to use free-of-charge to shred any unused forms following tax season or any other documents that contain sensitive information.  The truck will be present on both days from 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM.

The fun and excitement will be revved up even more on Sunday, April 25 as live music, a huge variety of corvettes, and teens enrolled in the Hillside Work-Scholarship Connection will join the fun.  The regional blues band Ledfoot will entertain fans waiting in the paddock area from 12:00 PM until 3:00 PM.  Several corvette race cars including a replica of the legendary Owens-Corning Corvette race car and the Whelen Engineering race car that currently runs in the World Challenge GT series will be on display in the main paddock.  Corvette fans should plan on making a stop by the East side of the garage area anywhere between 9:00 am and 2:00 pm to see the Corvette corral that features all the vehicles participating in the Spring Corvette Event organized by the International Motor Racing Research Center and The Registry of Corvette Race Cars.  A total of over 40 students that are currently part of the Hillside Work-Scholarship Connection will make their first-ever visit to The Glen.  They will get their pictures taken in Gatorade Victory Lane and then hop in one of the WGI pace vehicles to experience the legendary road course for themselves.

April 25th will also mark the LAST day to purchase racing tickets for all of the events at The Glen at the advanced prices.  Fans can save as much as $15.00 on race packages and $11.00 on individual tickets.
