Celebrate Your July 4th Weekend at The Glen

Fireworks, Concert, Autograph Sessions, Wine Tasting, and NASCAR Viewing Party

Danica Patrick

Danica Patrick (seen here in 2009) and all the stars of the IZOD IndyCar Series will participate in a driver autograph session on Saturday, July 3.

Fans will have plenty to do over their Fourth of July weekend at Watkins Glen International.  In addition to great racing during the IZOD IndyCar Series, Camping World Grand Prix at The Glen weekend, July 2-4, the staff of Watkins Glen International has been working hard to put together a great line-up of off-track activities to entertain fans.

The fun kicks off on Friday night, July 2, when a fireworks display will take place at 9:45 PM.  Fans in the Village of Watkins Glen can watch the fireworks over Seneca Lake during the Indy-Pendence Celebration at Clute Park.

On Saturday, fans will have a chance to meet all of their favorite drivers from the IZOD IndyCar Series and SCCA World Challenge Series as both host autograph sessions.  SCCA World Challenge starts the day with their autograph session from 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM in Turn 10.  Then, all of the stars of the IZOD IndyCar Series will meet in the same location for their mandatory all-driver autograph session.  From 3:30 PM – 4:30 PM, fans will be able to visit the area to meet all of their favorite drivers, including Danica Patrick, Scott Dixon, Helio Castroneves, and defending race-winner Justin Wilson.

Saturday night will bring a myriad of activities to ensure that the fun at The Glen does not stop when the sun goes down.  Instead, fans will stay entertained in to the night with concerts, fireworks, wine tasting, and a NASCAR viewing party.

The Saturday night concert on the Red Cat Summer Stage will feature not one but two bands – Ithaca, NY-based electro-rock band Jimkata and Denver, CO-based rock band Kinetix.  The night will start heating up when the first band hits the stage at 7:00 PM and will go until dusk.  Jimkata is known for combining raw guitar power with industrial blasts of synthesizers and drum machines and should not be missed.  Kinetix is coming off an active 2009 during which they logged over 10,000 miles criss-crossing the country playing at concert halls and music festivals.  The soul-powered rock and roll band continues to catch-on with music fans as it was featured on the iTunes “Rock on the Rise” list and their new album “Let Me In” hit #47 on the iTunes Top 200 Rock Chart.

Wine tasters that enjoy sampling some of the best wines from the Finger Lakes will get their chance both before and during the concerts.  The Finger Lakes Wine Experience tent will be open 12:00 PM – 5:00 PM and 6:30 – 9:30 PM on Saturday and then again 12:00 PM – 3:00 PM on Sunday.  Tasters must be at least 21 years of age or older and admission is only $5 which includes a tasting glass.

Meanwhile, a viewing party for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series’ Coke Zero 400 from Daytona International Speedway will be going on in the FrontStretch Grandstand.  Beginning at 7:30 PM, fans are invited to pick any seat in the FrontStretch Grandstand and settle-in until the checkered flag falls.  The race will be shown live from Daytona via JumboTron.

As one last celebration of our nation’s independence, the night will wrap up with a special fireworks display at The Glen beginning at 9:45 PM.  The fireworks will take place at the track allowing all fans to watch the spectacular.

Once again fans that purchase a Sunday-only ticket will be permitted to enter the track starting at 5:00 PM on Saturday, July 3.  This will allow those ticket holders to take advantage of both concerts, the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series viewing party, and fireworks.  Fans with Sunday-only tickets are reminded to pick-up their return pass at the gate as they leave the track Saturday night so that they can re-enter for the Camping World Grand Prix at The Glen on Sunday, July 4.
