Discover More About Your Favorite Wine
The Vintner's Room Offers an In-Depth Look at Various Grape Varieties
By: WGI Staff on 7/7/2010
Morgen McLaughlin, president of Finger Lakes Wine Country, will be joined by regional owners and vintners to educate tasters on some of the finest area wines.
The Vintner’s Room will be just one of the new features added to the 2010 Finger Lakes Wine Festival presented by Yancey’s Fancy New York’s Artisan Cheese, July 16-18, at Watkins Glen International. Join owners and vintners from the regions foremost wineries to learn about and taste their select, award winning wines. Each hour will focus on a different type of wine, allowing festival-goers the opportunity to learn more about a particular grape variety and why it does well in the Finger Lakes. Discover all the subtle, and not so subtle, differences between the different styles of the wine in intimate tasting experiences with winery owners and winemakers.
Finger Lakes Wine Country will be hosting the 20-minute sessions at the top of every hour on Saturday and Sunday. Sessions will run from 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM, with space limited to 30 people per session. Guests are encouraged to sign-up 10 minutes before the session begins to reserve their place in this brand-new seminar. Sign-ups will take place at the entrance of the Vintner’s Room, which will be located on the southern side of the main festival building.
Once a year, Watkins Glen International transforms from The Soul of American Road Racing into the Finger Lake’s largest tasting room, where over 600 New York wines will be sampled. The celebration kicks-off Friday evening at 6:00 pm, July 17th, with fireworks, wine, and togas at “Yancey’s Fancy Cheese Launch of the Lakes.” Saturday and Sunday the Festival will open at 10:00 am until 5:00 pm, featuring a variety of wine and food and arts and crafts from across the state, culinary classes, cooking demonstrations, wine seminars, the Brewers’ Garden, pace car rides, and live musical entertainment. On Saturday, serious wine tasters can enjoy an upscale atmosphere at the new RIEDEL Experience, which includes a VIP passport to the weekend’s activities, call 866-461-7223 to learn more. Tickets are limited and need to be purchased in advance.
This year the festival is expanding their grounds to offer a new wine tasting area adjacent to the previous tasting grounds. The festival will also offered new reserved camping areas and plenty of free parking.
