6 Hours Start

The 29th Running of the Sahlen's Six Hours of The Glen and the rivalry between GAINSCO and Ganassi will be highlighted during "The Edge: GRAND-AM Road Racing" on Sunday.

The 29th Running of the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen at historic Watkins Glen International in June 2010, provided plenty of on-track action and ended with a dominating win by TELMEX Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates teammates Scott Pruett and Memo Rojas.  The action at The Glen and also Lime Rock Park will be featured in the third episode of The Edge: GRAND-AM Road Racing, a behind the scenes look at the drama and excitement of Rolex Sports Car Series presented by Crown Royal Cask No. 16. The show will air on Discovery's HD Theater at noon ET on Sunday, Nov. 14.

This episode looks at the rivalry between TELMEX Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates and GAINSCO/Bob Stallings Racing, culminating in an altercation in the first turn of the opening lap in the Memorial Day Classic at Lime Rock Park. Entering the race with three consecutive victories, Ganassi duo Scott Pruett and Memo Rojas received a blow to their championship aspirations in the incident.

The scene then shifts to Watkins Glen, NY. Daytona Prototype teammates Jon Fogarty and Alex Gurney - in a Corvette - and David Donohue and Darren Law - in a Porsche - tour the original 6.6-mile circuit that held the first sports car race in North America following World War II. The show features plenty of archival footage from the races through the village and the permanent circuit, which hosted Formula One racing from 1961 through 1980.

Only five days following the Lime Rock incident, the Ganassi and GAINSCO drivers found themselves both on the front row for the start of the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen.  Pruett and Rojas went on to score an unprecedented third consecutive victory in the legendary endurance race, while Kevin Buckler's TRG Porsche GT3 captured GT honors.

The closing moments of the Sahlen's Six Hours sets the stage for episode four. Brian Frisselle's Ford/Riley is engulfed in flames entering pit road late in the race. Michael Shank Racing's efforts to secure and then prepare a replacement car for the team's home state race at Mid-Ohio only two weeks later will be featured in the Nov. 21 episode.

The five-part series, produced by NASCAR Media Group, will continue at noon ET on Nov. 21 and 28.  Discovery’s HD Theater is available on Time Warner Cable, DirecTV, and Dish Network but fans are encouraged to check their local listings in order to find the specific channel number.
