The Fans Have Asked and WGI is Proud to Respond
New Fan-Friendly Grandstand Policies Allow Larger Coolers and Lightweight Backpacks into All Grandstands
By: WGI Staff on 11/5/2010
Fans will be able to bring more of their own beverages and food into the grandstands with the new carry-in polices that will take effect in 2011.
Fans may now carry-in soft-sided coolers that measure no greater than 14 x 14 x 14 inches or 2,700 cubic inches – six times the size previously permitted. Coolers of this size typically have a removable plastic liner and are branded to hold 24 to 36 beverage cans. To ensure these items fit underneath grandstand seats and do not block walkways, coolers with telescoping handles and wheels will not be permitted.
“We have always worked very hard to provide the most value to our fans and make coming to our beautiful facility more and more affordable,” said Michael Printup, president of Watkins Glen International. “We greatly value the feedback we receive from our fans and they have been asking for ways to bring more of their own food and beverages with them to the track. These enhancements combined with free day-time parking should make watching the thrilling racing found during all of our event weekends at WGI even more enjoyable.”
Safety improvements allow enhanced convenience for fans while continuing to provide a secure environment. Fan comfort and safety remains a top priority so all items carried into the Soul of American Road Racing will be subject to a thorough and complete search by security personnel prior to entering the ticket gates.
Additionally, to make it more convenient for fans to carry additional items such as cameras, radio scanners and souvenirs, fans can now utilize lightweight backpacks or daypacks similar to those used by school students. As part of its standard policy, hard-sided coolers will not be allowed into the grandstand area.
