Opening Weekend at WGI Features Ticket Savings and Great Family Fun
Weekend Long Event Includes Visit by Children and Young Adults with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation

Rain or shine, fans will have the chance to hit the twists and turns of The Glen during Opening Weekend, April 16-17.
Opening Weekend, April 16-17 – WHICH IS THIS COMING WEEKEND – at legendary Watkins Glen International not only gives fans the opportunity to drive the historic road course in their own vehicles but also celebrates the opening of a new season and so much more. The two-day event will not only include the last chance to save money on tickets for the 2011 season and drive The Glen but also feature displays, a visit by children and young adults with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, and a sneak peek at the new grandstands currently being constructed at four locations around the track. The event will be held rain or shine.
The entire weekend will be jam-packed with fun for the whole family with the highlight being 3 laps around the 3.4-mile Grand Prix course at The Glen. WNGZ 104.9 will do a live action broadcast with Suzi Macool and Chris P. Bacon from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm on Saturday to get the weekend rockin’ and rollin’. Professional photographs will be taken of each car as they take their drive around the track by Track Time Photos and will be available for purchase following each tour. Fans will also be welcome to make a visit to Gatorade Victory Lane to take pictures of themselves standing in the same spots as Scott Pruett, Marcos Ambrose, and Juan Pablo Montoya did following their victories during the 2010 season. The latest WGI apparel will also be onsale during the entire event weekend allowing fans to get geared up for the 2011 season. A wide variety of concessions will be available at Stand 4 the entire weekend allowing fans to fill their stomachs after their spin around WGI. The menu will include Sahlen’s hot dogs, Yancey’s Fancy Budweiser cheese soup, cheeseburgers, chicken filet sandwich, French fries, Coke products, and water.
In addition to the WNGZ 104.9 FM live action broadcast on Saturday, fans will also have the chance to enjoy several displays during the weekend. Some of the cars that compete in the Green Grand Prix on Friday, April 15 are expected to stay for an extra day and be on display on Saturday, weather permitting. Advance Auto Parts will be on-site to support JDRF and offer coupons to fans and Fibrenew of the Finger Lakes, the experts in leather, vinyl, and plastic restoration, will be on-hand to discuss their services to any interested guests. These displays and the WGI retail trailer will be located by Stand 4.
Approximately 40 children and young adults associated with JDRF will come down to The Soul of American Road Racing and receive VIP treatment on Saturday, April 16. The day will include rides around the track to experience the excitement of the historic road course first-hand, a tour of the facility with WGI staff, and a full lunch provided by Tops Friendly Markets. The group will also get a chance to take their picture in Gatorade Victory Lane and get a behind-the-scenes glance of track operations.
Sunday, April 17th will also mark the LAST day to purchase racing tickets for all of the events at The Glen at the advanced prices. Fans can save as much as $16.00 on individual race tickets. Tickets will be available for purchase on site for the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series weekend, June 3-5, Finger Lakes Wine Festival presented by Yancey’s Fancy New York’s Artisan Cheese, July 15-17, Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips at The Glen NASCAR Sprint Cup Series weekend, August 11-14, and the U.S. Vintage Grand Prix at The Glen, September 9-11.

Gift certificates and track merchandise can all be purchased at The Shop located at 2 North Franklin Street in downtown Watkins Glen. The Shop is open Monday-Friday 9-5, Saturday 9-4, and closed on Sunday.
