Steuben

Steuben set to honor King and Queen at the Launch of the Lakes.

WATKINS GLEN, NYWatkins Glen International and long-time partner, the venerable American crystal company, Steuben have signed a new agreement that not only renews their partnership, but expands it to include involvement in the Finger Lakes Wine Festival presented by Yancey’s Fancy New York’s Artisan Cheese, July 15-17, 2011.  This marks the first time that the famed glass and crystal maker has moved beyond making the trophies for the marquee racing events at Watkins Glen International and into being featured during the Finger Lakes Wine Festival.

Steuben will play a key role in two of the most popular events during the Finger Lakes Wine Festival presented by Yancey’s Fancy New York’s Artisan Cheese: the Yancey’s Fancy Cheese Launch of the Lakes on Friday, July 15 and the Champagne Breakfast held on Saturday, July 16 and Sunday, July 17.

One of the highlights of the Yancey’s Fancy Cheese Launch of the Lakes is the traditional toast by Bacchus to bless the festival and the selecting of two lucky tasters as the festival King and Queen. Steuben will present the King and Queen with exquisite crystal champagne flutes from the Vee Collection to use for the toast and then take home as an award for receiving the highest honor at the festival. The popular kick-off to the festival starts at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, July 15 and features Yancey’s Fancy providing artisan cheese samples, several wineries providing tastings and selling wine, concessions, live music and fireworks.  Tickets to attend the Yancey’s Fancy Cheese Launch of Lakes are still available and are only $15.

Steuben will host a pair of Champagne Breakfasts at the Crown Royal Club on Saturday, July 16 and Sunday, July 17, both begin at 9:00 a.m.  Guests will be treated to a full display as they enter the club that presents some of Steuben’s finest craftsmanship.  Chefs will prepare specially designed meals to accompany Saturday’s mimosas, coffee, tea and juice. The same food options will be offered on Sunday, but guests receive a redemption coupon for champagne to be collected inside the Finger Lakes Wine Festival grounds.

Steuben has fashioned some of the most prestigious crystal trophies to be used at Watkins Glen International for more than a decade.  The Robert F. Snodgrass Memorial Trophy was issued to SunTrust Racing teammates Max Angelleli and Ricky Taylor following the 30th Running of The Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen earlier this month.  The Riesbeck Cup, named after Jim Riesbeck who is credited in bringing NASCAR racing to The Glen in 1986, has been given each year to the winner of the Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips at the Glen since 1996.  Steuben also created an original design of the Zippo factory smokestack for the winner of the Zippo 200 NASCAR Nationwide Series race as well as the crystal trophy that was awarded to each winner of the Corning 100 Firestone Indy Lights race from 2005 through 2010.

Located in Corning, NY, Steuben has been creating exceptional crystal pieces all the way back to the year 1903. Steuben offers a wide variety of illustrious gifts for a number of occasions as well as stemware, barware and table top accessories. Once a year, Watkins Glen International transforms from The Soul of American Road Racing into the Finger Lake’s largest tasting room, where over 600 New York wines will be sampled. The celebration kicks-off on the evening of Friday, July 15th, with fireworks, wine, and togas at “Yancey’s Fancy Cheese Launch of the Lakes.”  Saturday and Sunday the Festival will feature a variety of wine and food and arts and crafts from across the state, culinary classes, cooking demonstrations, wine seminars, The RIEDEL Experience, the Brewers’ Garden, pace car rides, live musical entertainment and much more. The festival will once again offer reserved camping areas and plenty of free parking.  For information, please contact the Watkins Glen ticket office, toll free, at 866-461-7223, or visit the official website at www.FLWineFest.com.  In the world of social media, you can also visit the official Facebook page of the Finger Lakes Wine Festival, www.Facebook.com/FLWineFest or follow Watkins Glen International on Twitter, @WGI.
