Come Rain or Shine, The Action at The Glen Will Be Hot on Saturday, August 13
Both the Zippo 200 and Canadian Tire 200 will Start in the Wet and the Dry
Many races at WGI have been held in the rain over the years, but it would be the first time ever a NASCAR race had been run in such conditions at The Glen.
WATKINS GLEN, NY – NASCAR officials confirmed that the Nationwide Series race will start as planned even if it rains tomorrow at Watkins Glen International. There is only a 40 percent chance of rain for the Zippo 200 on Saturday afternoon and the Canadian Tire 200 GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series race that night so fans will be treated to plenty of racing, the only question is whether it will be in the wet or the dry. Many races at WGI have been held in the rain over the years, but it would be the first time ever a NASCAR race had been run in such conditions at The Glen. The green flag will fall on the Zippo 200 at 2:00 p.m. and will be followed by the Canadian Tire 200 at 6:00 p.m.
“Racing in wet conditions in nothing new for road courses, but you obviously hope it doesn’t happen for the sake of the fans,” said Michael Printup, president of Watkins Glen International. “Even if the Zippo 200 and Canadian Tire 200 start in the rain, I am very confident that our fans will be treated to some thrilling action. Our elevation changes and the banking in our turns should help keep water from standing, but still provide the drivers with challenging conditions that will result in a great show for our fans.”
