WGI Seeks Fan Nominations for 2011 Legends of The Glen

WATKINS GLEN, NY – The history of racing in Watkins Glen reached an impressive 63 years in 2011 and there are few people that know The Glen’s history better than the fans. In an attempt to tap into that extensive knowledge and allow fans to have an impact on the honoring of that history, Watkins Glen International is once again looking for fan nominations for the next class of the Legends of The Glen. Nominations can be submitted starting immediately until Sunday, November 2. The 2012 Class of the Legends of The Glen will be announced over the course of the 2012 season.
The guidelines for submitting nominations are very simple and fans are welcome to submit as many as they wish. All nominations may be sent to the WGI email address, email@example.com, and must include the person’s name, a list of their accomplishments at The Glen, and a brief explanation detailing the reasons that the person deserves to be included in the Legends of The Glen. They may also be mailed to Watkins Glen International – Legends, 2790 County Rte. 16, Watkins Glen, N.Y. 14891. Fans can nominate anyone that has had a positive and/or significant impact on WGI and its illustrious history. This includes team owners, former WGI staff, officials, and any current or retired driver. The only requirement is that fans include only the accomplishments achieved at The Glen and not at other locations.
The Legends of The Glen began in 2008 as part of the 60th anniversary of racing in Watkins Glen and continues to honor individuals that have made a significant impact on The Glen’s history. So far 15 people have been inducted into the program; Cameron and Jean Argetsinger, Jim Riesbeck, Phil Walters, Walter Hansgen, Bill Milliken, Graham Hill, Sir Jackie Stewart, Jim Clark, Mario Andretti, Al Holbert, Hurley Haywood, Mark Martin, Tony Stewart and Jeff Gordon. Tickets for the 2012 season will go on sale in late November 2011. Renewal information will be sent to 2011 ticket holders in mid October providing them the first opportunity to purchase their seats and camping prior to tickets going on sale to the general public.
