The Glen is Ready for Its Close-Up, Mr. Director
Catch WGI on Man vs. Food Nation and Inside West Coast Customs
NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver appears with Adam Richman in the newest episode of Man v. Food Nation.
WATKINS GLEN, NY – The spectator events at legendary Watkins Glen International have come to an end for the 2011 season, but fans have two more chances to relive some of the fun in the next few weeks. WGI will serve as the backdrop for scenes of two hit TV shows – Man vs. Food Nation and Inside West Coast Customs. Both shows were recorded during this year’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series at The Glen event weekend in August.
Adam Richman, host of Man vs. Food Nation, served as the grand marshal for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at The Glen and got the event rolling by saying the most famous words in motorsports, “Gentlemen…start your engines!” Prior to starting the race, the food expert took in all The Glen had to offer and even made a stop at the Sprint Cup Series drivers’ meeting with cameras for the show in tow the entire time. Following giving the command, Richman headed up to Rochester, NY and visited some of the most popular restaurants in the city. His first stop was at Sticky Lips, which specializes in barbeque dishes, and he was joined by NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Joey Logano. Richman coached the young NASCAR star as he attempted to tackle the “Atomic Bomb Challenge” which featured a three-pound bacon cheeseburger stacked with pulled pork and meaty hot sauce all on top of a full pound of French fries.
Next stop on the tour was Campi’s, “Where Sandwich is King,” including the steak bomber – a steak sandwich with onions, mushrooms, a variety of peppers, provolone cheese and spicy ground beef hot sauce. Finally, Richman swung by the famed late night eating destination Nick Tahou’s to sample their famous garbage plate that features baked beans, macaroni salad, home fries, hot dogs, cheeseburgers and hot sauce.
The episode of Man vs. Food Nation will air Wednesday, October 19, at 9 p.m. EST on The Travel Channel. For Time Warner Cable customers, The Travel Channel is channel 24 while those with DISH Network can find it on 215 and DIRECTV customers are able to watch Man vs. Food Nation on channel 277.
The Glen was also the site for the final chapter of a story that included the renowned vehicle builders West Coast Customs (WCC) and long-time WGI partner, Zippo Manufacturing Company. The famed lighter company commissioned WCC to build a specialty vehicle to help promote the new Zippo Outdoor line of products. Started at the Zippo factory in Bradford, PA, in April, the process culminated with the official unveiling of the brand new vehicle in The Glen’s Gatorade Victory Lane. This marked the first time George Duke, Zippo owner and chairman, and other members of the Zippo team saw the custom-made Zippo Jeep for themselves.
Following the ceremony, Ryan Friedlinghaus, founder and CEO of WCC, headed over to the Zippo Hot Spot display on Manufacturer’s Row to sign autographs for fans. He then made a visit to the NASCAR Nationwide Series drivers’ meeting and then served as the grand marshal of the Zippo 200 NASCAR Nationwide Series race. Fans can watch the story of the Zippo Jeep unfold from the very beginning of the project to the unveiling at WGI by tuning into Velocity on Sunday, October 23, at 8 p.m. EST.
Anyone interested in tuning into Inside West Coast Customs with Time Warner can turn the dial to channel 820. Those with DISH Network and DIRECTV should change the channel to 364 or 281, respectively.
