WATKINS GLEN, NY – The popular Tire Rack Street Survival Driving School will return to Watkins Glen International for the fifth-consecutive year on Saturday, November 5. Registration opens on October 13 at www.streetsurvival.org and any person between the ages of 16 and 21 with a valid driver’s license or learner’s permit is eligible to participate in the program. Those interested in signing up are encouraged to secure their spot quickly as space is limited.
The Tire Rack Street Survival School has become a mainstay on the WGI off-season schedule as it places students in real-life situations to help them become safer drivers. Students learn vital maneuvers such as hard braking, skid control and accident avoidance from in-car coaches while behind the wheel of their own vehicles. Elements of the all-day experience include classroom sessions as well.
Students from far and wide have made the trek to the historic road course over the last four years to improve their driving skills. Some have traveled from as far away as New Jersey and numerous Upstate New York cities have been represented such as Big Flats, Elmira, Ithaca, Trumansburg, Vestal, Pittsford and Fairport. The course has been made possible by the continued partnership between Watkins Glen International and the Genesee Valley BMW Club in support of the Trumansburg Committee for Teen Driver Safety.
Overall, the Tire Rack Street Survival program is held nationwide and has hosted 56 schools since 2007. Parents or students looking for more information or who are interested in registering for the class on November 5 can visit www.streetsurvival.org.
