Successful Super Ball IX May Mean More Live Music at The Glen
WGI Evaluation Live Music Partnership Proposals
WATKINS GLEN, NY – The 2012 season at legendary Watkins Glen International has not even started, but it is never too early to start evaluating new and exciting options for the future. With the success of last summer’s Phish festival Super Ball IX, The Glen is now accepting and reviewing proposals for similar events to get Upstate New York rocking once again.
“Super Ball IX was truly an incredible event and marked another huge moment in our storied history,” said Michael Printup, President of Watkins Glen International. “The feedback we received from the fans, media, promoters, vendors, members of our community and the band has been overwhelmingly positive. The combination of our historic facility and the beauty of the surrounding Finger Lakes Region offer an experience unlike anywhere else in the country.”
Approximately 30,000 descended upon the legendary road course and surrounding communities during the July 4th weekend in 2011. The three-day festival featured five sets by the popular rock band and was rated as one of, if not the best, Super Ball festival by many Phish fans. The positive impact expanded beyond the boundaries of the festival itself as it is credited with an economic impact in the hundreds of thousands of dollars for Schuyler County alone.
Printup and the staff of Watkins Glen International are continually seeking ways to utilize the facility outside of racing events and the Finger Lakes Wine Festival presented by Yancey’s Fancy New York’s Artisan Cheese. The infrastructure, safety and camping available provide an excellent backdrop to a wide variety of developing or established acts.
