WATKINS GLEN, NY - Tickets for the 2012 season at Watkins Glen International will go on sale to the general public on Monday, December 5. Fans won’t want to miss the chance to SAVE up to $15 when they purchase their tickets in advance to experience some of the best racing, fastest cars and finest wine in the world. Tickets will be available for purchase by telephone at 866-461-RACE, online at www.TheGlen.com or at Watkins Glen International’s official retail store, The Shop, located at 2 North Franklin Street in the Village of Watkins Glen.
The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series at The Glen weekend continues to be one of the best values of the season with four-day general admission tickets for adults starting at only $65. Prices for kids and teens 18 and under are only $20 for grandstand seats and $10 for general admission! Families will continue to save even more throughout the season because kids and teens 18 and under are once again free for the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen, SCCA Glen Double Nationals and Glenora Wine Cellars U.S. Vintage Grand Prix presented by Welliver.
Fans will also enjoy flexibility when purchasing their tickets for the upcoming season. The 50/50 Payment Plan returns which allows them to pay for half of their ticket purchase up front with a credit card and have the other half charged to them on April 2, 2012. The second option is the four-part payment plan that permits fans to spread their payments over four dates – the date of original purchase, February 6, April 2 and May 14.
The racing action begins at The Soul of American Road Racing with the 31st Running of the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen event weekend, June 29 – July 1. The weekend will showcase sports car racing at its best with the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series and Continental Tire 150, GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sport Car Challenge as well as the open-wheel F1000 Championship Series.
The Finger Lakes Wine Festival presented by Yancey’s Fancy New York’s Artisan Cheese, July 13-15, moves the fun from the track to the infield. The festival continues to be the East Coast’s largest showcase of New York State wines and will feature approximately 80 wineries from around the region. The festival also includes arts and crafts from some of the area’s best artists, culinary classes, cooking demonstrations, pace car rides, the VIP Riedel Experience, live music, food vendors, and plenty of onsite camping. It all kicks off Friday night at the Yancey’s Fancy New York’s Artisan Cheese Launch of the Lakes featuring the annual Toga parade and crowning of the year’s festival King and Queen.
The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series returns to The Glen on the August 9-12 weekend. Defending race winner Marcos Ambrose and newly crowned Sprint Cup Series champion Tony Stewart will try to make their return to Gatorade Victory Lane against NASCAR’s best on Sunday, August 12. The Zippo 200 NASCAR Nationwide Series and the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series 200 races are once again paired together as a double-header on Saturday, August 11.
The 2012 season wraps up with the traditional Glenora Wine Cellars U.S. Vintage Grand Prix presented by Welliver, September 7-9, which pays tribute to the racing heritage of Watkins Glen. The weekend kicks off with the traditional reenactment race through downtown Watkins Glen on Friday, September 7. Fans may also admire cars at the Chemung Canal Trust Co. Auto Show. The featured marque for both the track and downtown festival is the Ford Mustang and the weekend’s special guest is yet to be announced.
