WGI Drives Donors to the Food Bank of the Southern Tier
Thunder Road Tour Incentive Raises Nearly $900 for the Hunger-Relief Organization
All vouchers distributed through the Food Bank of the Southern Tier will be honored beginning Monday, April 23, through the end of the 2012 season at The Glen.
WATKINS GLEN, NY – Over the course of the last week, Watkins Glen International has provided a little extra incentive for residents of the Twin Tiers to support the Food Bank of the Southern Tier and the response has been substantial. Starting on December 13, any person that made a donation of at least $5 to the Food Bank received a voucher for one free Thunder Road Tour and over the course of the next seven days the promotion resulted in nearly $900 being donated to the hunger-relief organization. A total of 100 vouchers, each a $25 value, were distributed and will allow the recipients to challenge the twists and turns of The Soul of American Road Racing in their own vehicle during the 2012 season.
“We are extremely grateful for the generous support of Watkins Glen International and their creative partnership in the fight against hunger,” Natasha Thompson, Food Bank of the Southern Tier President & CEO said. “The response from the community was incredible! With many of our member agencies reporting a 10 percent increase in demand this holiday season, these funds could not have come at a better time.”
For every $5, the Food Bank of the Southern Tier is able to acquire and distribute over $28 worth of food. Nearly 11,000 people receive emergency food assistance each week from a food panty, soup kitchen or other agency the Food Bank of the Southern Tier serves. In 2010, the Food Bank distributed nearly seven million pounds of food to hunger-relief agencies across the six counties of Broome, Chemung, Schuyler, Steuben, Tioga and Tompkins. The Thunder Road Tours provide fans with the opportunity to take three placed laps around the legendary road course. All vouchers distributed through the Food Bank of the Southern Tier will be honored beginning Monday, April 23, through the end of the 2012 season at The Glen. Tickets for the 2012 race season at Watkins Glen International are on sale now! Fans can purchase their tickets and camping by contacting the WGI ticket office at 866.461.RACE(7223) or logging on to the official website, www.TheGlen.com. Gift certificates, tickets and track merchandise can all be purchased at The Shop located at 2 North Franklin Street in downtown Watkins Glen. The Shop is open Monday-Saturday 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. and is closed on Sunday.
