WATKINS GLEN, NY - As the teams from the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series battle on-track during the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen on Sunday July 1, Watkins Glen International will host a race of a different kind – The Boy Scouts of America Pinewood Derby Race of Champions. The Pinewood Derby is one of many exciting activities scheduled for area Boy Scout troops during this family-friendly GRAND-AM sports car racing weekend.

Area members of the Boy Scouts of America and their families are invited to spend a weekend at The Glen and take advantage of free Gate 1 camping, free admission for Kids and Teens 18 years of age and under for the weekend’s races, driver autograph sessions and the Sahlen’s Sixth Annual Hot Dog Eating Contest.

In addition, for the sixth consecutive year, The Glen will provide the Boy Scouts of America with the perfect venue for earning the Geocaching Merit Badge. The merit badge quest begins the morning of Saturday, June 30, prior to the GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge Continental Tire 150 race. Scouts will scour The Glen for hidden caches using GPS-enabled devices, while picking up trash and recycling as part of the Cache In Trash Out program.

For more information on geocaching, visit www.geocaching.com.

In order to earn the Geocaching Merit Badge, Scouts must meet several requirements, which can be found online here.

The Scouts can also participate in the kids round of the Sahlen’s Sixth Annual Hot Dog Eating Contest in a tent near The Pyramid at 6 p.m. on Saturday before heading back to camp.

Sunday morning starts with the final Merit Badge Training before the green flag drops for the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen at 11 a.m. At 1 p.m., the green flag for the Boy Scouts of America Pinewood Derby Race of Champions waves in the area near The Pyramid.
