TRG Looks Forward to Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen
Steve Pumpelly prepares for continued success at Watkins Glen International
Spencer Pumpelly's six years of experience with TRG will pay dividends at The Glen this season.
WATKINS GLEN, NY – GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series team TRG took to the twists and turns of Watkins Glen International on Wednesday in preparation for Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen on Sunday, July 1. Wednesday’s test focused on familiarizing newer members of the team with the capabilities of the car on a track where their drivers have experienced success in recent years.
“It (The Glen) is one of our favorite places to race,” driver Spencer Pumpelly said. “It is a great town, great city, great racetrack. So it is always great to comeback.”
Pumpelly shared that the main objective of TRG’s time at The Glen is to provide new drivers the opportunity to get behind the wheel of the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Series cars. The two-time Rolex 24 at Daytona winner added, “...it is part of what we (TRG) do, try to help get more guys into the series.”
The caliber of vehicles under the TRG tent will lead to success for Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen according to Pumpelly. He and co-driver Andy Lally won the GT class in June 2010, with a Porsche GT3. TRG reclaimed the top spot in August’s GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series race with Pumpelly and Steve Bertheau behind the wheel. Bertheau and Pumpelly have competed together on six occasions, including their Watkins Glen International victory.
Pumpelly believes the fans will greatly enjoy the variety of racing action between the DP and GT classes during Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen (June 29- July 1).
“In the GT Class you have a little slower car, but there is a big variety between Porsches, BMWs, Mazda-RX8s, Camaros and everything you would see on the street racing,” Pumpelly said. “We have a lot of variety, really hard racing in this series. It has gotten to be where we are nose-to-tail almost every minute and for Six Hours it is going to be really exciting.”
Be here to find out if TRG’s track time is time well spent as Pumpelly and teammates return for Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen on Sunday, July 1. Be a part of the entire GRAND-AM weekend at Watkins Glen International June 29-July 1, as part of the North American Endurance Championship.
