Watkins Glen International Gears Up for GRAND-AM Weekend
The Glen Offers a Free Preview to the Public on Friday; Invites Military to Appreciation Event
WATKINS GLEN, NY – Some of the finest race car drivers in the world are, right now, filing into Watkins Glen International for the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen weekend. Activities begin on Friday, June 29 as The Glen opens its gates to the public free of charge from noon to 5 p.m. to preview the weekend’s activities. Fans who attend on Friday can watch practice and qualifying sessions for the GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge and Rolex Sports Car Series at the historic road course.
Fans who have not yet purchased their weekend general admission tickets but want to enjoy Friday’s free preview must register at the Ticket Office on County Route 16 just outside Gate 4a.
The Glen also welcomes active and retired members of the U.S. Military to attend Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen event with a guest free of charge on Sunday for a Military and Veterans Appreciation event hosted by the Odessa American Legion Post 676, the American Red Cross and various other local veteran and community service organizations. Entry on Sunday for the event will be through parking lot 2 and Gate 4a only, and attendees are asked to bring a valid Military ID.
This weekend will also mark one of the most family-friendly and fan-accessible events in motorsports. Throughout the weekend, fans are invited to take advantage of the unparalleled access to pre-race ceremonies, Gatorade Victory Lane and the garage areas all weekend long. On Saturday, fans can take part in a special autograph session with all the drivers of the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series including stars Patrick Dempsey, Paul Tracy and Scott Pruett!
In addition to the cars on track, The Glen will also play host to a group of over a dozen Ferraris that will be on display for fans near the midway. Fans may also participate in the 6th Annual Sahlen’s Hot Dog Eating Contest on Saturday night followed by the Red Cat Summer Stage Concert featuring Z-Star Winner Kristin Goodwin and the Corning, NY-based rock band Underwater Tiger.
With free admissions for kids and teens under 18, free camping offered in Gate 1 and all of the activities available at Watkins Glen International this weekend, there is sure to be something for every member of your family to enjoy!
