2012 Stanley Cup Champion to Drop Green Flag for Finger Lakes 355 at The Glen
LA Kings Captain and Ithaca, NY native to serve as Honorary Starter
Brown is just the second United States born Stanley Cup team captain to life Lord Stanley above his head.
WATKINS GLEN, NY – Dustin Brown took the Stanley Cup to his hometown – Ithaca, NY and now he will be dropping the green flag for Finger Lakes 355 at The Glen (August 9-12). Captain of the 2012 Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings, Brown will serve as the honorary starter on Sunday, August 12.
During part of his day with Lord Stanley, Brown returned to his old stomping grounds, Ithaca High School and was greeted by nearly 2,000 eager supporters. Brown played two years of hockey at Ithaca High before starting junior hockey in Canada in 2000.
He is just the second United States born Stanley Cup champion team captain in National Hockey League (NHL) history. Brown has served as team captain of the LA Kings since 2008, becoming the youngest and the first American in franchise history. He was the 2010-11 NHL Foundation Player Award recipient and a 2009 All-Star game selection. In 2003, he was selected by the LA Kings with the 13th overall pick in the NHL draft.
Brown was an alternative team captain for the Silver Medal 2010 United States Men’s Ice Hockey Olympic Team. He was a member of the US team during the 2004 Prague World Championship, taking home bronze.
