Save The Date – NASCAR Returns to The Glen August 8-11 in 2013
NASCAR Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series return to Watkins Glen International August 8-11.
WATKINS GLEN, NY – The NASCAR Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series return to Watkins Glen International, August 8-11 in 2013. The Glen was the venue of arguably one of the best finishes during the 2012 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season as Marcos Ambrose captured his second-consecutive WGI win after a last lap battle to the checkered flag.
“The competition the NASCAR Sprint Cup and Nationwide brings to our legendary road course has been unmatched in the past few years,” Michael Printup, WGI president said. “Our weekend in 2012 provided fans with what they came to see and what they have come to expect at The Glen. I have no doubt 2013 will produce remarkable finishes in both series once again.”
One of only two road courses on the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series schedule, The Glen has proved to be integral to drivers competing for the final spots of the Chase for the Sprint Cup. It was a duel to the finish between Marcos Ambrose and Brad Keselowski following Kyle Busch’s final lap spin out while leading the Finger Lakes 355 at The Glen in 2012. Ambrose battled from third to first in the final lap.
The NASCAR Nationwide Series will take to the legendary road course on Saturday, August 10 with the Zippo 200. In 2012, Carl Edwards captured his first road course victory in his lone start of the NASCAR Nationwide Series season edging Keselowski in the final laps to win by 1.130 seconds.
