Abby Wambach and Carli Lloyd Take on Grand Marshal and Honorary Starter Duties for Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen

WATKINS GLEN, NY – Two-time Olympic gold medalists Abby Wambach and Carli Lloyd will serve as Grand Marshal and Honorary Starter, respectively, for the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen (June 28-30). Wambach and Lloyd are teammates on both the WNY Flash and United States Women’s National Soccer teams.
Wambach, Lloyd and the rest of the WNY Flash including: Samantha Kerry, Veronica Perez, Alex Sahlen, Brittany Taylor and McCall Zerboni will join the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series drivers for the autograph session Saturday, June 29, from 1 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. behind the Sir Jackie Stewart grandstand in Turn 10.
Wambach owns the best goals-per-game ratio in U.S. soccer history and is the fifth U.S. player and ninth female player in world history to score 100 career international goals. On June 20, Wambach scored her 159th international goal to break Mia Hamm’s all-time record. As part of her duties as Grand Marshal, Wambach will give her best rendition of “Driver’s, start your engines!”
Lloyd scored both goals in Team USA’s triumphant gold medal 2-1 victory over Japan in the 2012 London Olympics. She is the only woman in history to score the game-winner in two separate Olympic gold medal matches. As Honorary Starter, Lloyd will drop the green flag on the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen.
