Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen Powers Through Friday
GRAND-AM Rolex and Continental, IMSA GT3 Porsche, F2000 featured on track
WATKINS GLEN, NY – Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen started Friday with practice sessions for GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car and Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge Series, IMSA GT3 Challenge and F2000 Championship Series.
The No. 3 8Star Motorsports Corvette, driven by Enzo Potolicchio, Stephane Sarrazin and Michael Valiante, recorded the fastest DP lap notching119.028 mph. In the GT class, the No. 63 Scuderia Corsa Ferrari 458 turned the fastest lap (107.718 mph) with Craig Stanton, Jeff Westphal and Alessandoro Balzan, edging Eric Curran and Boris Said’s No. 31 Marsh Racing Corvette (107.671 mph). The No. 70 Mazdaspeed/Speedsource Mazda 6 GX piloted by Andrew Carbonell, Sylvain Tremblay and Tom Long recorded the top speed with a lap time of 1:58.633 (103.175 mph).
GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Series practiced twice, with Hugh Plum, driver of the No. 45 Eagle Tech, B+ Foundation BMW M3, recording the fastest lap of either session in GS class with a lap time of 2:05.105 (97.838 mph). In the ST class, the No. 77 Pixxcars.com Honda Civic laid down a top speed of 93.237 mph (2:11.278).
Porsche GT3 practiced twice in preparation for Saturday and Sunday’s races. NGT Motorsport’s Daniel Duerson set the fastest lap in both sessions. In the first practice, Duerson’s lap was a mere .943 seconds faster than Ashley Freiberg who set a time of 2:17.153 in the Effort Racing Porsche GT3.
Tim Minor took the checkered flag in F2000’s first race of the weekend. It was Minor’s sixth race of the 2013 season.
Saturday features all four series on track with GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series getting things started with a 9 a.m. practice session. Continental Tire ST qualifying follows at 10:15 a.m. and GS qualifies at 10:40 a.m. Rolex GT and GX qualifying is set for 11:05 a.m. and DP qualifying begins at 11:25 a.m. F2000 and Porsche GT3 celebrate 100 races as series at 11:55 a.m. and 1 p.m., respectively. Green flag drops at 3 p.m. for the Continental Tire 150.
Camping and tickets for Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen are available for purchase at the Ticket Office starting at 8 a.m. Gates open at 7 a.m.
