Tickets and camping are available for the July 11-13 event.
WATKINS GLEN, NY – Now is the time to clear your calendars for a weekend of wine, food, friends, and fun at the annual Finger Lakes Wine Festival presented by Yancey’s Fancy New York’s Artisan Cheese. Watkins Glen International will welcome more than 80 different wineries, as well as musicians, regional chefs, food purveyors, craft vendors and visitors from all over the country, July 11-13.
“This event has really transformed into a New York State wine and cheese festival over the past 18 years,” stated Michael Printup, President of Watkins Glen International. “We are thrilled with the number of wineries that have already signed up for the weekend and know that more will come on board as we get closer to spring.”
The festival was established in 1994 at the New York Chiropractic College in Seneca Falls, NY and was taken over by Watkins Glen International in 1996. Since then, WGI has been able to grow the event into the East Coast’s largest event focusing on New York State wines, crafts and cuisine and a four-time recipient of the American Bus Association’s Top 100 Event designation.
The Glen invites guests to celebrate the Finger Lakes by tasting the top wines in the region, enjoying food made by local chefs using the bounties of locally grown ingredients, and riding around the famed road course in the official WGI pace car. The weekend festivities will also include live music, concessions, a variety of cheese samples from Yancey’s Fancy and fireworks. Camping at The Glen is also available throughout the weekend festivities and continues to grow in popularity.
Friday, July 11, guests are welcome to kick off the festival at Yancey’s Fancy Launch of The Lakes event, which includes the opportunity to win a variety of prizes in the toga contest in categories such as: Best Group, Best Theme, Most Traditional and The Cheesiest. Two individuals will also be crowned as the 2014 King and Queen at the Finger Lakes’ largest toga party. Tickets start at $20 for this unique event. Additional weekend events that continue to sell out also include the Great Western Breakfasts and Tasters Banquet.
Over 80 different wineries will be present and tentatively include recent award winners Earle Estates Meadery, Hazlitt 1852 Vineyards and Torrey Ridge Winery. All three were Double Gold medal recipients at the 2014 Florida International Wine and Grape Juice Competition. Hazlitt 1852 Vineyards collected Best in Show White (2012 Homestead Reserve Riesling) and Best of Show Dessert Wine (2012 Vidal Blanc Ice) at the 26th annual event in February. Lakewood Vineyards (2012 Chardonnay) won a Gold Medal in the competition and a Silver Medal was collected by 2014 Finger Lakes Wine Festival participant Wagner Vineyards. The complete list of 2014 wineries is available at FLWineFest.com.
