WATKINS GLEN, NY – Watkins Glen International is hosting an American Red Cross blood drive on Tuesday, September 9. The blood drive, which was started more than 10 years ago in recognition of those affected during the September 11th attacks in 2001, will take place in WGI’s Media Center from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
All presenting donors will receive a Drive the Glen ticket and a Red Cross t-shirt as a “Thank You” from the American Red Cross and The Glen. The Drive the Glen ticket will allow participants to drive their vehicle on a paced lap around the renowned track.
Local blood donors, with all blood types, are needed year round to ensure the blood supply stays strong. Approximately every two seconds, a patient in the United States needs blood. That’s why blood donations through the Red Cross are so important. One blood donation only takes up to one hour of time and may help save up to three lives. Individuals who are 17 years of age (16 with parental permission in New York State), meet weight and height requirements (110 pounds or more, depending on their height), and are in generally good health may be eligible to give blood. Walk-ins are always welcome, but donors are encouraged to schedule an appointment in advance by calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-737-2767) or by visiting redcrossblood.org.
