WATKINS GLEN, NY (March 24, 2015) – Watkins Glen International is proud to announce a renewed partnership with Cornell Racing. The deal provides Cornell Racing with access to the historic road course, allowing the organization to practice and test their Formula SAE Team custom car in preparation for various competitions throughout the year.

“Watkins Glen International is pleased to team up with these talented students and professors to help enhance an already renowned program, located right here in western New York. It’s a great partnership that we’re excited to continue.” said Watkins Glen International President Michael Printup.

In 1986, Professor Albert R. George became the faculty advisor to oversee approximately a dozen mechanical engineering students who began researching and designing a racecar from scratch. Also known as Cornell’s Formula SAE team, Cornell Racing has grown to an average of 60 undergraduate and graduate students, with members participating from nearly every school within the University. Since its inception, Cornell Racing has competed at FSAE Michigan, where they have claimed an unmatched nine world championships.

“It's amazing to get to drive at Watkins Glen, where you're surrounded by other enthusiastic racers in a beautiful paddock with the sound of engines roaring around the circuit in the background,” said Connor Archard, a senior electrical engineer major and Cornell Formula SAE team leader. “The facilities really allow us to stretch our legs and get our car up to competition speeds, which is invaluable for preparing our drivers to race and to represent Cornell Racing. I'm always excited for weekends in the spring when we get to head over to The Glen.”

As part of the relationship, Cornell Racing will feature the WGI logo on its 2015 Formula SAE car, which will appear at competitions and promotional events throughout the year. The 2015 car, ARG15, will feature an improved aerodynamic package which will, by increasing downforce, create a large boost in performance. For better serviceability, ARG15 will also return to a ¾ carbon fiber monocoque last seen in ARG12.

Located within five (5) hours (~300 miles) of 25% of the US population, Watkins Glen International is the premier road racing facility in North America.
