History of Racing at The Glen

Watkins Glen International was established on the streets of Watkins Glen, NY in 1948 and is North America’s premier racing facility. The Glen has a long and storied past from its Formula 1 roots to its position as New York’s only home to the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.

The quantity and caliber of legendary drivers who have taken to the streets of Watkins Glen and the turns of Watkins Glen International is nearly second to none. Stars from all forms of racing - open-wheel, sportscar and stock car - have come to The Glen to put their talent to the test. There are a few select individuals who have left an indelible mark on The Glen's history whether from behind the wheel of a car or behind a desk.
