Scott, nice job so far. What grade would you give your season so far?
Scott_Dixon
Hard to say. I think I would give myself a C or a B. I think myself and my team have sometimes left a few things on the table so far this season. So definitely not an A or A+

What has made you so successful at The Glen?
Scott_Dixon
That's a good question. I think the prep. We got to do a test the first year and that gave us an advantage. After winning the first year we had a lot of confidence last year. Plus the team is good at road courses and I really excel on them so it's a good combo.

  Where did "Iceman" come from?
Scott_Dixon
It came from a PR guy that I had a pack with by the name of Crusher. He gave me the nicknames of Iceman and Sampson. I was able to stand up to anything he came up with nothing seemed to faze me. I was able to stay calm and monotone.

congrats on the upcoming wedding! as a new fan of the IRL what event is a must-see (excluding the 500 of course)
Scott_Dixon
Well Watkins Glen of course. Obviously my favorite since I've won twice. I personally really like the road courses. St. Pete has a lot of parties and is close to the water. Sonoma is Napa Valley so it's really nice and an interesting place to visit but my favorite is Watkins Glen.

Did you feel like you had the car to win the Indy 500 this year?
Scott_Dixon
I think in the first part of the race. We expected to go faster with the set up we had but when the rain came and took the rubber off the track so we started to struggle. I think if we had a few more laps before the rain started we would have had a great chance.

What's the best part of running in the IndyCar Series?
Scott_Dixon
It's definitely the racing. You look at F-1 and Champ Car and there's not a lot of competition. We put on a great show for the fans and that's a great part of the IndyCar Series.

  What got you into triathlons?
Scott_Dixon
Most of my training is based on triathlon disciplines, basically swimming, biking and running. My trainer has done the Iron Man so that really got me into them.

What's the best part of the track at The Glen?
Scott_Dixon
The best section is the bus stop going into the carousel. It's so fast and a mistake can be pretty scary.

Whenever your racing is done, what will you do?
Scott_Dixon
At this point I have no idea. I try to look down the road 1 year or less. I would like to stay involved with auto racing whether it be a team owner or something. I'm not really sure.

Hi Scott I want to congrats on your engagement to you and your fiancé. I'll be at Richmond this weekend, will you be driving a paint scheme for the race?
Scott_Dixon
No. Definitely will be the Target one at Richmond. My next one will be Energizer at Nashville.

did you enjoy your "iron chef" experience
Scott_Dixon
It was interesting put it that way. Especially for someone like me that doesn't cook. It was biased towards Tomas because he knows how to cook and I didn't have a chance in hell. My team really pulled me up on that one.

  From last week
Scott_Dixon
Last week was Commit. We crashed the Energizer car so we had to run the Commit instead.

Did you like Iowa Speedway and would you like to race there again?
Scott_Dixon
It was definitely a very unique circuit for us. It's very short but very, very fast like Texas. I would like to seem them change it somehow because it was too many cars too close together at too high of a speed.

How you feeling about this year's race?
Scott_Dixon
I'm very excited. I love going to road courses especially The Glen with it being my favorite.

OWFan

Jun 27, 2007 6:43:23 PM

  Least favorite track? Why?
Scott_Dixon
Off hand I would have to say probably Milwaukee. It's not a place I've done well at. We ended up 4th this year but in 2004 or 2005 sticks in my mind when I crashed 2 cars very hard in 4 laps.

Jun 27, 2007 6:44:25 PM

If you were able to make the Indy Car schedule, what tracks you add on and/or take off the schedule?
Scott_Dixon
Definitely keep the 5 road courses and Indy. Most of the venues we go to are pretty good but I would want to see more added so that we could run 23 races.

do you get along with dan? or do you have your own little 'rumbles at the speedway' :D
Scott_Dixon
We get along alright. We have our differences like you have with anybody especially since we are so competitive. I think we work well together.

Scott do you have any plans to go to NASCAR
Scott_Dixon
Not at the moment. I'm very committed to the IndyCar Series and enjoy what I am doing. It's not out of the question as I am only 26. Maybe a few years down the road I will be interested.

Which teammate were you referring to when you got asked out by a male fan?
Scott_Dixon
Dan. That's not a hard one to figure out. Dan loves shoes.

Do you miss Nazareth Speedway, I know you were the youngest winner when you raced in Champ Cart Series
Scott_Dixon
Yeah. It was a very cool circuit. I almost won there in 2003 in the IndyCar Series. It's a fun circuit and it's unfortunately one of the circuits we have lost.

Jun 27, 2007 6:48:09 PM

Scott, seeing as how you are so versed at road courses, have you ever considered F1 or Champ car?
Scott_Dixon
I did Champ car in 2001 and 2002. I tested for F1 in 2004 and 2005. Yeah I've definitely looked at F1 and that's a big interest. From being from New Zealand it's always something that interests me but it's so political.

What competitor that hasn't won an Indy Car race do you think is most deserving of a victory.
Scott_Dixon
Vitor Meira. I think he's finished 2nd the most but never won and he's probably the most talented without a win.

marshall13

Jun 27, 2007 6:49:02 PM

We here in PA would love to see IRL come back to Nazareth!
Scott_Dixon
Yea definitely. Love the place. What a fun track.

Jun 27, 2007 6:49:30 PM

Political, do you mean between different sanctioning bodies, or more about pleasing Bernie and his boys?
Scott_Dixon
Definitely Bernie and his boys. It's very tough to get into.

Jun 27, 2007 6:50:10 PM

Do you like to see more night races on the Indy Car schedule in the near future?
Scott_Dixon
Yeah I think night races are very cool. It's definitely cooler for the fans to watch and the cars look better under the lights. I would love to have a road course at night under the lights.

marshall13

Jun 27, 2007 6:50:40 PM

If anyone's got the talent for that sort of competition, you certainly do.
Scott_Dixon
Thank you very much. That's something I've always wanted to be involved in. I love to race so whatever I'm in I'll be happy.

Hi Scott - do you think Milka has what it takes to compete in the IRL?
Scott_Dixon
I think she's in a tough situation. She hasn't been able to practice a lot or do a lot of racing that a lot of us guys have done in early years. It's an uphill climb for her and in the next few years we will learn if she can compete at that high level.

marshall13

Jun 27, 2007 6:51:59 PM

Road course under the lights. That's definitely the definition of cool!
Scott_Dixon
Yeah it is. I think I've done one road course race under the lights in Australia and it was pretty sweet.

indygal4life

Jun 27, 2007 6:52:17 PM

What road course would you like to see the night race at? The Glen?
Scott_Dixon
Let's start with The Glen for sure. That way we win.

Jun 27, 2007 6:52:59 PM

Do you think Danica will win an Indy car race?
Scott_Dixon
I hope she does. Whether she will or not none of us know. She's put in a ton of work and is very talented so I hope she does.

Looks like we're about to run out of time, but I want to wish you well and hopefully I'll be able to run into you next weekend at the glen. Sorry that I'll be wearing a Penske shirt...you do what you've got to do.
Scott_Dixon
I hope I run into you but try to put on a Target shirt and help us out. The Penske boys aren't doing too well.

Jun 27, 2007 6:54:35 PM

I need to get going. Thank you everyone for showing so much interest. We hope everyone enjoys what we do and we wouldn't be here without you. I will see you at The Glen and I hope we put on a good show for you. Thanks again.
