2,000 servicemembers received free tickets to attend Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen Sunday, June 30.

Watkins Glen, NY – Genesee Beer and its fans are saluting the troops with free tickets to one of the biggest races in the country. 2,000 servicemembers received free tickets to attend Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen Sunday, June 30.

“Genesee Beer has been proudly brewed in Rochester, New York for generations,” said Janine Schoos, brand director Genesee Beer. “We’re thankful for the men and women who risk their lives for our country and our freedom. To thank them the Genesee way, we wanted to share with them a fun day at the track! We’re excited to partner with Watkins Glen International in new ways and help give back to who we owe the most: our servicemembers.”

The tickets were distributed to five military bases across the brewery’s home state of New York. Fort Drum Army Reservation, Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station, Syracuse’s Hancock Field Air National Guard Base, Naval Support Activity Saratoga Springs and Watervliet Arsenal each received 400 race tickets.

“The members of Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station are continuously dedicated to developing resilient Airmen and leaders. We’re excited to start our summer with the opportunity to spend time with our community,” said 914th Air Refueling Wing Commander, Col. Mark S. Larson.

The Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen is one of the most prestigious endurance sportscar races on the international motorsports calendar, taking place directly after the world famous 24 Hours of Le Mans in France. The event features over a dozen well-known auto manufacturers and over 24 hours of on-track action, leading up to Sunday’s Six Hour competition. Past winners of the event include Mario Andretti, Pedro Rodriguez, Derek Bell, and more. Tickets for the long-distance classic will be available at the gate all weekend long, with a general admission pass allowing entry to the series garages, autograph sessions, pre-race grid walk, and more.

“The Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen is always a patriotic affair with the race weekend being so close to Independence Day,” said Watkins Glen International President Michael Printup. “Genesee Beer putting together this program for our servicemembers is a true testament to their brand and those that represent it. We are thrilled to host 2,000 of our brave men and women from these five military bases around New York State, and our team looks forward to providing them with a great experience on race day.”

This ticket donation is one component of Genesee Beer’s new, multi-year partnership with Watkins Glen International. Genesee has returned as The Official Beer of The Glen for the 2019 season. Together, Genesee Beer and Watkins Glen International are offering hundreds of fan experiences throughout the racing season. Genesee Beer will be available at each event at The Glen and New York State’s largest beer can will display Genesee branding onsite. Fans can also enjoy the free Genesee Summer Concert Series June 6, 13, 20; July 9, 18, 25.
