WGI Seeks Fan Nominations for 2011 Legends of The Glen
The history of racing in Watkins Glen reached an impressive 63 years in 2011 and there are few people that know The Glen’s history better than the fans. In an attempt to tap into that extensive knowledge and allow fans to have an impact on the honoring of that history, Watkins Glen International is once again looking for fan nominations for the next class of the Legends of The Glen. Nominations can be submitted starting immediately until Sunday, November 2. The 2012 Class of the Legends of The Glen will be announced over the course of the 2012 season.

The Six Hours of The Glen was a mainstay on the schedule for Watkins Glen from the time it started in 1968 until the historic road course closed in 1981. This was not ht ecase when the facility was reopened as Watkins Glen International in 1984 and that remained the case for over 10 years.

This year marks the 30th running of the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen and when the drivers of the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series take to the track on Saturday, June 4, they will be looking to add their names to the very long list of significant moments that make up The Glen’s history. Ever since the first running of the famed endurance racing in 1968, fans have left Watkins Glen International with life-long memories more times than they can count. While it is almost impossible to rank these moments against each other, there are three Six Hours of The Glen races that tend to stand out over the others. The 1969 Six Hours of The Glen was such a race and featured the start of a legendary career as well as a dominating performance.

Calling All “Legends of The Glen”
With over 65 years of legendary racing, Watkins Glen International is now accepting nominations from fans for the 2014 Legends of the Glen. Last year, Geoff Bodine and Otto Linton were inducted into the Legends of the Glen, joining 18 other distinguished individuals. Fans will need to act quickly as nominations are being accepted now until May 31st.

Watkins Glen International Adds Color to Chamber of Commerce
Stephen Oosterling answered The Glen’s call for a local artist late in 2012 to create a mural spanning a 10’ x 17’ wall and signify over 65 years of sports car racing history at Watkins Glen International. The Williamson, NY-based motorsports artist exceeded expectations with the final piece displayed at the Watkins Glen Chamber of Commerce on Franklin Street.
