Jeff Gordon Joins Elite Group as Newest Member of The Legends of The Glen
Michael Printup, president of Watkins Glen International, announced earlier today that Jeff Gordon has been named the first member of the Class of 2011 for the Legends of The Glen. In front of local, regional, and international media, Printup presented Gordon with a hand-blown glass vase made by Vitrix Glass of Corning, NY, during an induction ceremony held in the historic road course’s media center. Mike Helton, president of NASCAR, was also in attendance to acknowledge Gordon’s contributions to the sport and join the celebration. Today’s ceremony will not be the last induction that is scheduled to occur during the 2011 season at The Glen.

Watkins Glen International Qualifying Record May Fall
The top 10 drivers in final practice for the Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips at The Glen smashed the track qualifying record set back in 2003 by four-time Watkins Glen International winner Jeff Gordon. No. 9 Marcos Ambrose (126.604 mph), No. 22 Kurt Busch, No. 99 Carl Edwards, No. 22 Brad Keselowski, No. 56 Martin Truex, Jr., No. 20 Joey Logano, No. 33 Clint Bowyer, No. 48 Jimmie Johnson, No. 31 Jeff Burton and No. 13 Casey Mears were all faster than the 124.580 mph of Gordon’s record. Defending race winner No. 42 Juan Pablo Montoya had the 15th fastest time in practice.

Kyle Busch Takes Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips at The Glen Pole in Record Time
Fastest of the fast today was Kyle Busch, whose 1:09.767 (126.421 mph) lap was over one second faster than Jeff Gordon’s 1:10.798 (124.580 mph). The 2003 track record set by Gordon was destroyed today by no less than 15 drivers during qualifying for Sunday’s 2011 Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips at The Glen.

WGI Seeks Fan Nominations for 2011 Legends of The Glen
The history of racing in Watkins Glen reached an impressive 63 years in 2011 and there are few people that know The Glen’s history better than the fans. In an attempt to tap into that extensive knowledge and allow fans to have an impact on the honoring of that history, Watkins Glen International is once again looking for fan nominations for the next class of the Legends of The Glen. Nominations can be submitted starting immediately until Sunday, November 2. The 2012 Class of the Legends of The Glen will be announced over the course of the 2012 season.

Record Breaking Day at Watkins Glen International
Four-time Watkins Glen International race winner Jeff Gordon returned to winning form, capturing the pole for Sunday’s Cheez-It™ 355 at The Glen with record-breaking speed. The Glen Helps Fuel The Drive to End Hunger Campaign
Watkins Glen International is proud to announce that the extra food from the Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips at The Glen weekend was donated to the Food Bank of the Southern Tier on the afternoon of Monday, August 15. Established in 1981, the Food Bank of the Southern Tier has been serving the citizens of Broome, Chemung, Schuyler, Steuben, Tioga and Tompkins Counties for the past 30 years. This opportunity allowed The Glen to give back, once again, to its local community while fulfilling the responsibilities of the national campaign developed by the AARP Foundation.

Bill Milliken and Mario Andretti Latest to Join The Legends of the Glen
Watkins Glen International track president Michael Printup announced that William “Bill” Milliken and Mario Andretti have joined the Legends of the Glen during a press conference held earlier this afternoon. The announcement was made in front of media and fans in Lafayette Park located in Watkins Glen, NY as part of the downtown grand prix festival that runs in conjunction with the Glenora Wine Cellars U.S. Vintage Grand Prix presented by Welliver. Milliken was joined by members of his family but Andretti was unable to attend.
