WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (May 28, 2020) — The Food Bank of the Southern Tier had a unique set up in helping local hunger relief efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic. Utilizing the NASCAR Cup Series garages, Watkins Glen International served as a drive-thru for the local community.
Watkins Glen International staff and local volunteers were on site to distribute the food. Low contact drive-up food distribution began at 10 am, the 10th week of Food Bank Community Food Distributions since suspending Mobile Food Pantries to limit social contact among volunteers, staff and clients. Community Food Distributions will be held in each of the six counties we serve while shutdown orders are in effect.
More than 85% of Food Bank emergency food pantries and meals sites REMAIN OPEN throughout the Southern Tier.
