Overview

The Pit Road Camping area at Watkins Glen International is a reserved infield camping zone located directly behind Pit Lane and the Frontstretch Grandstand. This area provides premium access to the start/finish line, garage, and paddock areas, and is used during large-scale events such as NASCAR and IMSA race weekends. The map shows numbered campsites, traffic direction, and proximity to key venue features.

Location and Orientation

  • Located inside the track, along the front straightaway, immediately behind Pit Road.

  • Bordered on the south by the Frontstretch Grandstand and on the north by Glen Club Drive.

  • Very close to Victory Circle, garage entrances, and hospitality suites.

  • Access is typically controlled via Gate 2 or Gate 3, then through secured infield checkpoints.

Campsite Layout

  • The section is divided into five lettered rows: A through E.

  • Each row contains numbered campsites running east to west (e.g., A1–A13, B1–B13, etc.).

  • Campsites are uniform in shape and size, approximately 20 feet wide by 40 feet deep, accommodating most RVs or trailers.

  • All sites are reserved only, and each is clearly labeled on the map.

Access and Traffic Flow

  • Internal roads loop around the site, with marked one-way arrows showing the vehicle flow pattern.

  • Vehicle access is restricted during certain race times to ensure pedestrian safety.

  • Entry points are located near the east and west ends of Glen Club Drive, with check-in points for credentials and vehicle passes.

Proximity and Viewing

  • While not directly along the fence line, campers in Pit Road have walking access within seconds to:

    • Pit lane

    • Start/finish line

    • Victory Lane

    • Media and driver meet & greet zones

    • The main pedestrian tunnel to grandstands and vendor plazas

  • There is no elevated viewing berm or stand within this camping section, but fans can walk directly to the Frontstretch Grandstand or general admission berms.

Amenities and Facilities (Expected)

Though not specifically marked on this map, the Pit Road camping area typically includes:

  • Permanent restrooms and shower access in nearby hospitality or suite buildings

  • Trash and recycling bins

  • Water refill stations

  • Proximity to Glen Club, Tower Suites, and other premium hospitality services

  • Jumbotron visibility from nearby standing areas

Accessibility Considerations

  • The terrain is flat and partially paved, making it one of the most accessible camping areas at the track.

  • While ADA-specific campsites are not marked, this area is well-suited for campers with limited mobility.

  • Wheelchair-accessible restrooms and shuttles are available nearby, particularly near the Glen Club and Pit Terrace.

Camping Policies (Implied)

  • This is a credentialed-only zone with restricted access.

  • Campers must:

    • Occupy only their assigned site

    • Adhere to quiet hours, generator rules, and fire safety policies

    • Display valid camping and vehicle passes at all times

  • Limit two motorized vehicles per site unless otherwise noted

  • No open fires directly on grass or pavement
